What is Family Therapy?

Families come in all different shapes and sizes and are different in their own unique way. Unlike individual therapy, family therapy entails family members to work together in order to nurture positive changes within the family dynamic.

As families grow and change, our relationships with partners, children, or other family members (such as, siblings, parents, etc.) can become strained. Some issues that may be addressed are: marital or financial conflict, parent/child conflict, or the impact of substance abuse, mental illness, or loss within the family. It can help you understand each other better, bringing your family closer together.

Family Systems approach is one of the many modalities utilized in family therapy. This approach considers the systems of interaction between family members, helping individuals understand and support each other within the family unit. However, each family will require a specific treatment plan unique to the families therapeutic goals.

Family therapy is for those willing to participate and can often be short term. The process can help you learn skills to communicate more effectively, deepen relationships, and manage stressful situations. If you and your family members are looking for support and guidance within the family dynamics, Family Therapy may be the right fit for you.
