Group Therapy
Group therapy is a form of therapy that occurs typically with two therapists and 6-12 members and occurs weekly for a structured period of time. Some groups are open – meaning they allow drop ins and you do not have to commit to attending weekly for the period of time the group is running. However, other groups are closed, which means there is a set start and end date.
Research has shown that group therapy can be an effective form of treatment for some individuals. It is common for individuals to feel isolated in their therapeutic process. Therefore, group therapy provides an opportunity for community by connecting individuals with people who may be experiencing similar life events.
Group therapy can also be beneficial as it provides a safe supportive environment to learn, explore, and grow as individuals. The diversity of the group can also contribute to individuals gaining new insight into new coping skills or strategies from other group members.
